Toronto Metropolitan University is a public research university located in Toronto, Ontario. The university has seven academic departments; the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Community Services, Science, Engineering, Creative School, Lincoln Alexander School of Law; and the Ted Rogers School of Management. Through the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education, the university also offers continuing education services.

The organization was founded in 1948 and given the name Ryerson Institute of Technology in honor of Egerton Ryerson, a significant architect of the public education system in Canada. In recognition of Egerton Ryerson’s involvement in the residential school system and its detrimental effects on indigenous cultures, the university was renamed Toronto Metropolitan University in 2022.

Toronto Metropolitan University is located on 350 Victoria Street, which is in the heart of Toronto, the fourth largest city in North America. The majority of the university’s central campus is located in Toronto’s Garden District.

There are few entrance markers separating the campus from the rest of the city because it is interlinked to the remainder of the downtown area. Although certain parts of the school are located in areas zoned for commercial and residential use, the majority of the campus is designated as a mixed-use institutional district.

Scholarships and Awards

Support your education with generous entrance scholarships and prestigious industry-sponsored awards.

International students may qualify for entrance scholarships and distinguished awards, such as the President’s Entrance Scholarship (up to $40,000) or the International Secondary School Merit Scholarship ($5,000 entrance only, non-renewable). Applications are available online via AwardSpring.

International students (on a study visa) attending and completing studies at a Canadian secondary school may qualify for the Guaranteed and Renewable Scholarship.
